DemoLens (demolens.org) and the "DemoLens for FACEIT" browser extension · Last updated: 2026-08-12
The short version
We collect no personal data. There are no accounts, no tracking, no analytics cookies, and no ads. Demos are parsed locally in your browser — demo files are never uploaded to us.
Website (demolens.org)
Demo files you open (via drag & drop, file picker, or a demo URL) are downloaded and processed entirely inside your browser. The contents never leave your machine. Settings such as language or UI preferences are stored locally in your browser (localStorage) and are not transmitted. The site is hosted on Cloudflare Pages; Cloudflare may process technical request data (such as IP addresses) to deliver the site, as described in Cloudflare's privacy policy.
Browser extension ("DemoLens for FACEIT")
The extension adds a button to FACEIT match rooms and hands the demo's download link to demolens.org. It also shows scouting stats (map win rates, recent form, Elo tiers) for the players in the room. For this it reads the public match roster from FACEIT's public match API — the same request the FACEIT page itself makes — and asks our stats proxy (see below) for each player's public career stats. It does not collect or transmit any data about you. It does not read your browsing history, page content beyond the match room, or any FACEIT account data. The only things it stores (locally, via chrome.storage) are the on-screen position of its button, your chosen display language, and the optional auto-accept setting. Demo files are streamed by the website directly from FACEIT's content delivery network — they never pass through the extension.
Scouting stats proxy
To show player stats, the extension calls a small API on demolens.org that relays FACEIT's public data API (this keeps the API key off your machine). The request contains only the public player IDs of the match roster you are looking at — nothing about you. Responses contain only public FACEIT profile statistics and are cached briefly via standard HTTP caching to reduce load. We keep no database and no logs of these requests of our own; Cloudflare's technical request handling (described above) applies.
Third parties
When you load a FACEIT demo, your browser connects directly to FACEIT's CDN to fetch the file; in match rooms the extension also queries FACEIT's public match API to read the roster (both subject to FACEIT's privacy policy).
Chat translation. If your browser has a built-in on-device translator (Chrome 138+), translation happens entirely on your device and nothing is sent anywhere. If it does not, the translate button instead opens a Google Translate tab, and doing so sends the in-game chat text and the player names it contains to Google (subject to Google's privacy policy). This only happens when you click that button, and it opens visibly in a new tab — but it is the one action in DemoLens that transmits demo content off your machine. Everything else stays local.
Your data and your rights
We operate no user accounts and no database. Because demos are processed in your browser, we never receive their contents and cannot access them. The only personal data processed on our behalf is the technical request data (including IP address) that Cloudflare handles as our hosting provider in order to deliver and secure the site; the legal basis is our legitimate interest in providing a working, secure website (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). We do not store this data ourselves and set no retention period of our own — Cloudflare's log retention applies. Cloudflare operates a global network, so delivery may involve servers outside the EU/EEA under Cloudflare's own safeguards.
The browser-local storage described above (language, UI preferences, extension button position) stays on your device, is only written after you actively change a setting, and is not accessible to us. You can clear it at any time through your browser settings.
You have the right to request access to, rectification of, or erasure of your personal data, to restriction of or objection to processing, and to data portability (Art. 15–21 GDPR). Since we hold no user data, such requests will in practice concern Cloudflare's processing. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority — in Austria the Datenschutzbehörde.
